Yorkshire UMC – York, PA

Spire was contracted to design and install a theatrical and architectural lighting system at Yorkshire United Methodist Church. In early meetings with the church’s renovation committee, it became clear that the design would need to preserve the traditional architectural style of the sanctuary and also achieve a modern feel throughout the space with lighting. The service structure was going to be set up to accommodate a traditional service and a contemporary service. The only way to more effectively light the room was to remove all of the existing fixtures in the sanctuary and to upgrade to an LED recessed can design to provide directional light over the pews and a theatrical lighting system to evenly light the platform. Further accent lighting was added to the design behind the Cross and the cornice above the cross to highlight the traditional architecture.

The system uses a number of RGB LED fixtures including about 200 feet of custom LED strip lighting that was designed and built by us. The entertainment and architectural lighting industry has failed to develop a flicker-free, smooth dimming curve, reasonably priced LED dimmer. To meet the design requirements, we had to turn to a custom design, made in house, and controllable via DMX, dimmer. Another component of the installation was the implementation of a theatrical lighting console able to easily control the seasonal dramatic productions. We turned to an Interactive TechnologiesCueserver to control the architectural lighting and placed wall stations around the room for simplistic control of the lighting system.

“(Members of Spire) were able to interpret what a non-technical person is saying, know how to fix it and articulate back the solution to me. That’s key. It’s nice, because not all technical people can do that translation.”

“Spire is not only able to deliver a fantastic result, but they were also extremely personal, and have been helpful in training, repairing, and guiding us through our lighting needs.”

Pastor Monty of Mongul Church

“Spire was able to create an incredibly immersive environment without distraction from lighting fixtures. Their selection of fixture placement and color really brought their work to life and I am very happy our ultra compact luminaries were chosen to create the magic.”

Quan Gan of Gantom Lighting and Controls – Trophy Room Project

“The team at Spire brought our auditorium into the 21st They assessed our needs and presented a solution that is user friendly and cutting at the same time. They have a knack for understanding the end user, in our case, senior citizens as well as our staff members.”
